§ 94-5. Applicability to public employees.

(a)

The provisions of this chapter shall apply to the driver of any vehicle owned by, or used in the service of, the United States government, the state, county, or town, and it shall be unlawful for any such driver to violate any of the provisions of this chapter, except as otherwise permitted in this chapter, or by state statute.

(b)

While actually engaged in maintenance or construction work on the highways, but not while traveling to or from such work, drivers of vehicles owned or operated by the state or this town are exempt from all provisions of this chapter except as set forth in G.S. 20-168(b).
