When an ordinance is violated in the presence of any police officer, it shall be his
duty to arrest the violator in accordance with the procedures set forth in G.S. 15A-501.
(b)
It shall be the duty of the members of the police department to pass around the town
at reasonable intervals, to give their attention to the enforcement of the ordinances
of the town, to arrest all offenders against the same, to suppress all disturbances,
and upon the occasion of fire, to be present to preserve order, protect property,
give proper information to strangers, and to be civil and pleasant to all, when possible,
with whom they may have official business.
