§ 78-7. Garbage pickup service.

  • (a)

    Residential pickup. Garbage will be collected by the town from each residence once each week from the curb. It will be the responsibility of the resident to roll the container to the curb for pickup and to remove the container from the curb after it has been serviced.

    (b)

    Backdoor residential pickup exemption. Anyone who is unable, because of a physical disability, age, or handicap, to roll the container to the curb, may receive backdoor service at no cost upon approval of the public works director, who may require a doctor's certification as proof thereof.

    (c)

    Availability of containers. Garbage collection begins at 6:00 a.m., and containers not available for collection on the scheduled day will not be collected until the next scheduled day. Containers shall be removed from the curb the day they are serviced. The public works director shall determine that area considered to be the curb as it relates to the refuse and garbage collection pickup point.

    (d)

    Commercial and nonresidential pickup. Garbage will be collected from commercial establishments which are provided roll-out garbage carts, once each week. Nonresidential dwellings will be collected once weekly where roll-out carts are used. Additional pickups may be scheduled by the director of public works as required by the owner or resident manager in accordance with the fee schedule provided in section 78-8.

    (e)

    Private collection service. Garbage collection that is performed by private companies shall not begin earlier than 6:00 a.m. and shall not continue beyond 7:00 p.m.
