§ 54-48. Authority, reports.

  • (a)

    The chief of police shall have control over the police department under the supervision of the town manager. The chief shall keep the town manager informed of the department's activities and make such reports as the manager may from time to time require. He shall also perform other duties as may be required of him by the manager.

    (b)

    The police chief may, from time to time, create and enforce policies and standard operating procedures for the efficient, effective and comprehensive operation of the police department, its officers and other employees under his charge, not inconsistent with this Code, state laws and otherwise consistent with local law enforcement principles and subject to the town manager's written approval. The town attorney will timely provide such assistance, comment and opinion on such policies and procedures as the police chief and/or town manager may request. Such policies, rules and procedures, until rescinded or otherwise modified, shall have the effect of policy, rule, standard or supervisor's order and shall be adhered to and upheld by all departmental personnel.
