§ 102-123. Definitions.

  • The following words, terms and phrases, when used in this article, shall have the meanings ascribed to them in this section, except where the context clearly indicates a different meaning:

    Chief of police means the executive head of the police department of the town or anyone designated by him.

    Owner or applicant means a person engaged in the business of, or offering the services of, a vehicle wrecker or towing service whereby motor vehicles are or may be towed or otherwise removed from one place to another by the use of a motor vehicle manufactured and designed for the primary purpose of removing and towing disabled motor vehicles.

    Towing list means a list maintained by the police department containing the names of those wreckers licensed by the town to respond to requests for the towing of vehicles made by the police department.

    Wrecker means a truck chassis having a minimum gross vehicular weight of 7,000 pounds, and boom assembly having a minimum lifting power of 8,000 pounds, as rated by the manufacturer, and any additional safety equipment as specified by the chief of police.
