§ 102-19. Definitions.

  • The following words, terms and phrases, when used in this article, shall have the meanings ascribed to them in this section, except where the context clearly indicates a different meaning:

    Certificate means the certificate of public convenience and necessity granted by the board of commissioners to engage in the taxicab business as provided in this article.

    Driver means every person in charge of or operating a taxicab.

    Driver's permit means the permit issued by the board authorizing a person to drive a taxicab as provided in this article.

    Inspector means the inspector of taxicabs of the town.

    Owner means any person to whom a certificate of public convenience and necessity for the operation of a taxicab has been issued.

    Street means any street, alley, avenue, lane, road, highway, or public place within the town limits, and outside the town limits within five miles thereof at any point.

    Taxicab means any vehicle for hire for the purpose of transporting passengers upon the streets except vehicles operating over a fixed route and between fixed termini.

    Within the limits of the town means all territory within the corporate limits of the town and all territory outside of the town within five miles of the corporate limits thereof at any point.
